Kumana National Park
The eastern continuation of Yala, reached from Arugam Bay through Panama and Okanda. The Kumana villu is a nesting ground for water birds from about April to June, and leopards, elephants and crocodiles are present with very few jeeps around. The drive in is long and bumpy, so a full morning is needed.
$41.18 for two adults
Park ticket USD 12 per adult and USD 6 per child aged 6 to 12 (SAARC passports USD 10 and 5), plus USD 10 service charge and LKR 300 vehicle fee per jeep, all plus 18% VAT. Two adults sharing a jeep pay about USD 41 in park fees. Jeep hire is priced separately. Two operator lists quote USD 25 or 27 per adult; the gazette places Kumana in Category II at USD 12, and that is what we budget.
Hours: Daily 6.00 am to 6.00 pm; ticket counters 6.00 am to 4.00 pm; all vehicles out by 6.00 pm.
- Leopards are seen on some drives, not all; the main draw is birds and the quiet.
- Allow 4 hours including the approach from the Okanda gate.
- Campsites were closed for drought in September 2026; dry-season water levels affect sightings.
