Ayurveda and wellness, 8 days

Daily Ayurveda at Bentota, then a quiet beach

Ayurveda and wellness, 8 days is a private Sri Lanka tour by Majeste. It costs $1,165 per person for two at shoulder-season rates (for the hotels on this route, April and 1 November to 20 December), with comfort hotels, entrance tickets and your own car and English-speaking driver included. Prices checked 7 Nov 2026. In its best months, Nov to Apr, it costs $1,143 to $1,356 per person for two, depending on the start date. It stops at Bentota (Beruwala, Kalutara and Ahungalla), Tangalle (Rekawa and Hiriketiya), in that order. The longest drive is on day 8, from Tangalle to the airport, about 3 h 15 min. Nothing to pay now.

Day by day

Five nights at Bentota, 1 hour 50 minutes from the airport, with a two-hour Ayurveda session each day after a consultation with the centre's doctor, a Madu River boat and a temple visit as gentle excursions, then two nights near Tangalle with a yoga day at Talalla. It is an entry-level wellness week, not a residential cure: the classic Panchakarma programmes run 7 to 14 nights at dedicated resorts with their own daily rates, and this tour does not include them. Ayurveda is a traditional wellness system; we do not present it as a cure for any condition. The west coast sea is calm from November to April.

  • Daily two-hour Ayurveda session: consultation, oil massage, steam, head treatment
  • Bentota's beach and river lagoon
  • Madu River mangrove boat
  • Kande Vihara temple
  • Yoga day pass at Talalla Retreat
  • Tangalle's quiet beaches
  1. Day 1: Airport to Bentota, consultation

About 1 hour 50 minutes by expressway to Bentota. Check in and a consultation with the Ayurvedic doctor, who sets the plan for the week; tell them about pregnancy, skin conditions and medication.

    Road:
Bandaranaike International Airport to Bentota (Beruwala, Kalutara and Ahungalla), about 1 h 45 min, 107 km
  2. Day 2: First treatment session

A two-hour session in the afternoon: herbal oil massage, steam bath and a head treatment. The morning is free for the beach or the river; the sea is rough from May to October and beach touts are part of the scene.

    Activities, included:
    Ayurveda treatment session
  3. Day 3: Madu River boat, second session

A two-hour boat through the Madu River mangroves and islands in the morning, 30 minutes down the coast. The afternoon session at the centre.

  4. Day 4: Kande Vihara, third session

A morning visit to the Kande Vihara temple and its large seated Buddha, then the afternoon session. Geoffrey Bawa's Lunuganga garden is nearby and can be booked ahead.

    Sights, tickets included:
    Kande Vihara
    Activities, included:
    Ayurveda treatment session
  5. Day 5: Fourth session

A rest day: the beach or the river lagoon, which stays usable even when the sea is rough, and the afternoon session. A half day at Galle Fort, 1 hour 20 minutes each way, is the alternative.

    Activities, included:
    Ayurveda treatment session
    Optional extras, not included:
Galle Fort walking tour with a heritage guide ($45 per person for two)
  6. Day 6: To Tangalle, yoga at Talalla

About 2 hours 50 minutes south via Galle to the Tangalle coast, with a stop at Talalla Retreat for a day pass: a class in the open-air shala, a meal, the bathhouse and the pool. Tangalle's beaches are long and quiet; several have strong currents, so ask before swimming.

    Road:
Bentota (Beruwala, Kalutara and Ahungalla) to Tangalle (Rekawa and Hiriketiya), about 2 h 45 min, 130 km
  7. Day 7: Beach day

Nothing planned. The Kalametiya lagoon bird boat at dawn or the Rekawa turtle watch at night are the quiet extras here.

    Optional extras, not included:
Turtle nesting watch at Rekawa beach (paid there)
  8. Day 8: Tangalle to the airport

A slow morning on the beach. The airport is about 3 hours 15 minutes by expressway.

    Road:
Tangalle (Rekawa and Hiriketiya) to Bandaranaike International Airport, about 3 h 15 min, 211 km

Good to know

Pace

Five nights in one hotel; drives of under 2 hours except day 6 (about 2 hours 50 minutes) and day 8 (about 3 hours 15 minutes).

When to go

  • Best months: November to April.
  • Harder months: May to October. Rain, rough seas or park closures can affect parts of the trip.

Stop by stop

Bentota (Beruwala, Kalutara and Ahungalla)

  • Rough sea and strong currents from May to October; the river lagoon stays usable.
  • Resort feel with little village life.
  • Beach boys and water-sport touts.
  • Many turtle hatcheries here are tourist businesses of doubtful conservation value. We do not include them. For nesting turtles in the wild, see the Rekawa night watch.

Tangalle (Rekawa and Hiriketiya)

  • Rough sea and strong currents from May to October; several beaches have shore-break at any time and few have lifeguards. Ask before swimming.
  • Spread out; you need transport to get around.
  • Turtles nest year-round, most often around April to July; sightings are never guaranteed.
  • Hiriketiya is crowded in season.

Limits and seasons for each activity

  • Ayurveda treatment session: Tell the doctor about pregnancy, skin conditions and medication before treatment.
  • Madu River boat safari: Life jackets are on board; wear them.

Paying and cancelling

  • Nothing to pay now. You pay your driver in cash when the trip starts. No deposit, no card details online.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
  • Inside 24 hours, tell us at once: your driver has held those days for you and turned other work away.
  • Your driver's name and vehicle plate come by 20:00 the evening before the trip, or within 30 minutes of a later booking.

Read the cancellation policy

Children and residents

  • Children under 6 stay free sharing their parents' bed. Children 6 to 11 sharing a room pay a small supplement. From 12, hotels count a child as an adult.
  • Entrance fees for Sri Lankan residents differ. Message us and we price them for you.

Questions about this tour

Is this a residential Ayurveda cure?

No. It is a hotel stay with a daily two-hour session at a centre. Residential cures at dedicated resorts run 7 to 14 nights with a doctor's programme, full board and a daily rate for treatments; they are not part of this tour, and we do not sell them.

How is the session priced?

It is priced as a published two-hour package from a marketplace listing, and once you book, your booking keeps that price.

Can we do this in the hills instead?

Yes. Kandy has Ayurveda centres and cooler air and works all year; the airport drive is about 3 hours 15 minutes. Use Change the route or add days beside the price: the planner prices it before you book.
